Community steps in to cool dogs at Fort Lupton rescue

FORT LUPTON, CO – Temperatures hit triple digits earlier this week, but people are not the only ones sweating. Dogs are feeling the heat too, and one rescue could use your help keeping them cool.

Soul Dog Rescue in Fort Lupton, which takes in dogs rescued from reservations near the Four Corners, is grappling with the heat. Deja Navarro, part of the kennel staff, highlighted their efforts to provide care, including vaccinations, spaying/neutering, and microchipping.

Dogs at the rescue enjoy outdoor time with kiddie pools and tarps for shade, although maintaining the latter can be challenging. Volunteer Stephanie Keltner initiated a GoFundMe to raise $5,000 for sturdier awnings like metal carports.

Despite just starting as a volunteer, Keltner is eager to enhance the dogs’ comfort. The fundraiser has already gathered a few hundred dollars in two days, with hopes to provide not just physical relief but also hope for the dogs to find permanent homes.
