German Shepherd adopted by IMPD officer who saved her life

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department safety officer is giving a pup a second chance at life after she was left to suffer inside of a hot vehicle last week.

PSO Poe was working shortly before 6 p.m. on June 20, when he responded to a report of a dog left in a hot car at a hotel parking lot. When he arrived on the scene, he found two dogs and a cat inside of the car in 90-degree heat with no air conditioning and “windows barely cracked.” Despite efforts, one dog tragically passed away due to the extreme heat.

Abby, a German Shepherd, was saved and subsequently adopted by PSO Poe. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department emphasizes local ordinances requiring pets to be brought indoors during high temperatures or heat advisories. Two individuals were arrested in connection with the incident.
